Porch Repair in Toronto
A concrete front porch in Toronto takes a beating: freeze-thaw cycles, de-icing salt, and decades of settlement. We repair cracked porch slabs, spalled surfaces, damaged landings, and worn front steps across Toronto and the east GTA — and when a porch is past repairing, we tell you that plainly and quote the rebuild instead.

Common porch problems we repair
Most porch calls we get come down to a handful of failure patterns, and almost all of them get worse each winter they're left alone.
- Cracked or heaved porch slabs from frost and soil movement
- Spalled, flaking concrete surfaces from de-icing salt
- Broken or crumbling step edges and nosings
- Sinking or tilted landings that pool water toward the house
- Loose or hollow-sounding surface layers from previous patch jobs
- Rusting railing anchors cracking the concrete around them
Cracked concrete porch repair
Hairline surface cracks and structural cracks are different problems. Surface cracks can be routed, filled, and resurfaced. Cracks that go through the slab, keep widening season over season, or come with sinking on one side usually mean water is getting under the porch and moving the base — patching the top without fixing the cause buys you one winter, maybe two.
We start every porch repair by figuring out which of the two you have. That's why we ask for photos up front: a rough answer on repair versus rebuild is often possible before anyone visits your house.
Damaged landing repair
Landings fail at the edges first — the outside corners break off, the surface wears through, and the slope slowly reverses until meltwater drains toward your foundation instead of away from it. We repair landing surfaces and edges with proper surface prep, bonding, and slope correction so the repair sheds water the way the original pour was supposed to.
Resurfacing vs. rebuild — the honest version
Resurfacing is the right call when the structure underneath is sound: the slab isn't moving, the steps are solid, and the damage is in the top layer. It costs a fraction of a rebuild and looks new when it's done right — which means real surface prep, not a skim coat over dust.
A rebuild is the right call when the porch is sinking, the cracks are structural, or so much of the surface has failed that a resurface would be a patchwork. We'll tell you which one your porch needs and put it in a written scope. If a repair will genuinely hold, we won't sell you a rebuild.
Repairs usually mean the old railing comes off
Here's something most homeowners don't find out until mid-project: resurfacing a porch means unbolting the existing railing. And re-anchoring a rusted, forty-year-old railing into fresh concrete is a bad idea — the anchors are usually the reason the concrete cracked around them in the first place.
That makes a porch repair the natural moment to upgrade the railing. Interlocks Toronto handles the porch and concrete work; when new railings are needed, we plan their installation alongside the porch or deck work so new posts are anchored properly into the repaired surface instead of drilled as an afterthought.

Useful answers.
How do I know if my porch can be repaired or needs a full rebuild?
The dividing line is movement. If the slab is stable and the damage is surface-level — spalling, worn edges, hairline cracks — repair is usually viable. If the porch is sinking, tilting, or cracked through the slab, resurfacing won't hold and a rebuild is the honest recommendation. Send us photos and we'll tell you which side of the line you're on before anyone visits.
Can you repair just the broken step edges?
Yes. Broken nosings and step edges are one of the most common repairs we do. The edge is cut back to sound concrete, prepped, and rebuilt with proper bonding — not a surface patch that pops off the following spring.
What happens to my existing railing during a porch repair?
Resurfacing means the railing comes off, because the surface it's bolted to is being replaced. If the railing is in good shape it can be re-installed. If it's rusted or loose — which is common, since failing anchors crack the concrete around them — this is the natural moment to replace it. We can include railing installation in the scope, so the layout is planned early.
When is the best time of year for porch repair in Toronto?
Concrete work needs sustained above-freezing temperatures to cure properly, so the season generally runs April through November. Book ahead of the fall rush if you want damage repaired before winter makes it worse.
Do you give quotes from photos?
Yes — photos are the fastest path to a rough number. Text them to us or use the quote form, and we can review the scope and whether a site visit is needed.
